What do you believe is the approximate price of a 2 year old Toyota 4 runner?
I am trying to make a budget.

I have been told they are difficult to find...as no one wants to sell them?
Any truth in this rumour?

Around US$20,000 or RD$1 million.

Make sure you run a carfax report before buying and also make sure you have access to the FULL service history.

In the past few months I have seen many chopped cars being sold by dealers.
Some are good examples, others I could do a better paint and re-build job.

New car sales are at an all time low and this is a way for some dealers to make money.

Also look at Nissen Pathfinders and Mitsubishi L200's.
Plenty of them in the DR, so parts and service shouldn't be a problem.

Toyota

I am very concerned about safety in this land of crazy drivers...would you have a better idea?
What about the theft factor? I have heard that Mitsubichi Monteros are stolen left right and center?

And the carjacking factor? Does a Toyota 4 runner gives the wrong image?

Carjacking is so far down on the list of concerns here.

You should live here for a while before you think about buying a car. Without plently of experience watching the locals drive, you are sure to get into an accident.

That being said, what will concern you as soon as you are living here will be the 20 - 22 hours blackouts per day. Combine that with not having running water most of the time. Also sometimes the gas stations are out of fuel.
