Is it legal for a tourist to purchase and insure a vehicle ? It would be cheaper for me than all the car rental fees I have paid on vacations.
What paperwork do I need to do this?

Can I puchase insurance and do the insurance companies pay you if the vehicle is stolen while I am out of the country?

Thank you.

Yup. All you need is a passport. If you buy the car new, it gets put into your name from the start. If not, there are fees to pay for the transfer. The dealer usually has someone who can do the paper work for you. Not complicated.

If the vehicle is stolen while you are out of the country, you still need to have someone report it. Check with the insurance company.
