The women volleyball team just won their first match in the Athens Olympics vs. the US. They had earlier lost to the teams of Russia and China, two of the world's toughest. They won 26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 23-25 and 19-17 in a 2 hour and 12 minute game.

Next they play Cuba and Germany, two other very tough teams. But the US victory may make the objective of the Dominican team come true: "to prove that we are worthy of being in the Olympics."

I just saw the game replayed...awesome. They did so well and all were beautiful...

Controversial Vicbart Geraldino won his first match in the Olympics. President of the Judo Federation Jaime Casanova had banned him from going to the Olympics because of a personal dispute. The president of the Dominican Olympic Committee overran that decision and registered him. Geraldino has said he would denounce corruption in local sports that affects the athletes. Must be especially sweet for him to be able to own up to the first win of the Dominican judo team.

wanda rijo finished #10 and juan sainfleur (sp?) couldn't finish on the 100m heat due to cramps on his leg (or so i saw). johelin santa is on the 3rd group of the semifinals 400m which will be tonight at 20:29 CET time.

juan carlos payano lost his boxing match to the french jerome thomas 36 to 17. johelin santa didn't make it to the final in 400m and julio dujarric is #9 in skeet shooting with 73 points, 2 points behind the #1 marko kemppainen.
