Not US standards, but not US prices either!

I work at a big hospital complex in Santo Domingo.I might recommend "La Colonial".They just signed an agreement with CIGNA of the USA to work together. All insurance companies give "Country Wide" coverage. You may have to go to Santiago,or Santo Domingo for a specialist,or for most surgical proceedures."Dominican" health insurance has lots of diseases not covered, and several limits on policies, and office visits, lab work,etc..The more you pay,the more, higher limit, the coverage. It is worth buying, especially if you have children.Cris Colon

Give me an idea of what plans cover what and how much they cost.

How good would my coverage be for say...500 pesos per month?

How good for 1,000 pesos?

I'll live in Santo Domingo. Do you know if SSS of the US have a similar agreement somewhere in the capital. What can I get for about $450.00 us a month?

thanks

Each plan is different.I have Servicios Dominicanos de Salud "SDS"

Covers me,my wife, and 4 children,I pay 360 pesos per month,my employer pays 840.Covers office visits, lab work,x-rays etc.to about 70% of the costs. There are annual limits that vary from company to company, and policy to policy.Pays OR,doctors fees for surgery, but again with limits.Open Heart Surgery may or may not be covered.
Don't get AIDS,cancer, need dialysis,or lose your mind, cause you will be on your own!
For $500.00 US a month, you can get US/International insurance.(In the DR Archives) insurance.
If you have US insurance coverage, you can be re-imbursed for most all proceedures covered by that insurance. You just have to be able to communicate with them before, during, and after to be sure you are covered, and what paperwork you need to prove your claim.
Air Ambulance insurance is great if you can afford it.You can be in Miami in two hours!

Are you asking about health coverage for 10-20USD per month? Damm, I realize costs are low in the DR but what can you expect for that/

if you are simply a traveler and not resident, look up TravelGuard on the net

A person I know who posts on here picked up a basic plan for less than 400 pesos per month.

Don't get me wrong, I believe you, but question what type of coverage you can get for 10.00USD per month?

Travel guard charges 10% of your "vacation," so if your only vacation cost is airline, you pay only 10% of ticket while in country The coverage is primary, includes PRE EXISTING conditions, med evac, dental . lost baggage, CDW etc ...Great value and underpriced in my opinion

Of course this insurance is only to stabilize and get you to "better" medical care facility where your own insurance will take over IE: heart attack in DR, takes care of any costs at private DR clinic, med evac to nearest Cardiac Facility (Providing it is still needed) and then your own insurance kicks in
