I thought I'd start a thread listing the prices of basic food items which I would update from time to time too see if the prices are rising or falling. Also this would give a person outside of the country an idea what it would cost to buy food for a week or so.

Milk 32.95 quart
Bread 62.00 loaf
coffee 58.95 5 pound
Eggs 56.95 dozen
Tomatoes 14.95 pound
Carrots 9.95 pound
Groundbeef 39.95 pound
Steak 82.95 pound
porkchops 109.95 pound
Simalac 190.00 can
baby food 16.95 bottle
O.J 35.00 cartoon
Sugar 49.50 5 pounds
Rice 169-219.95 10 pound bag
beans 69.95 2 lbs. bag
Pasta 18.95-34.95 package
Tuna in oil 19.95 can
tuna in water 69.95 can
Toilet paper 49.95 4 rolls
5 Gallon Water 20.00 refill

I'll add items to the list as I can... this are just some of the items I purchased on my last trip to the supermarket. If anyone has suggestions as to items I should include, let me know. Knowing is half the battle.

Great idea. Perhaps you could or someone else could add some non-supermarket items that have risen in price during the pesos devalued period- gasoline, clothing, restaurants to see if they come back down. - D

You might want to mention where you are since prices sometimes vary a bit by area...

Food prices

With the new tax rates Presidente will be bumped up a bit:
small 355ml-25 pesos
grande 650 ml-45 pesos
Bottomline is the locals, down in the trenches working everyday are getting killed. The exchange rate to becoming more favorable for the local market but it will be awhile before it's reflected locally in prices on the street.
