Hi Guys

Was just wondering if anyone could tell me the location (if indeed there are any) of places specialising in performance car parts, I mean the real good stuff from turbos and superchargers to body styling kits etc. Since I have been here I have only managed to find the usual rubbish at the 'Auto Adornos' if there is such a place where I can get my hands on the cool stuff could somebody please let me know!

Thanks

Tim

Well there's RPM on Wiston Churchill (Plaza Fernandez).

If they don?t have a part you need in stock, they can order it. Owner is a very knowledgeable person and owns the only JDM S15 Sylvia in the country.

Then there's Takumi Shop on Charles Summer (Corner before Churchill). A lot of JDM parts can be found there.

And also there's BP Autocentro. They currently have the only Dyno in the country

Any other question you may have just send it down this way.

One more thing, if your gonna race keep it off the streets....drag strip opens every saturday afternoon (5pm till 10:30pm) at the Autodromo Las Americas.

BTW, there will be a open track day in November.

I have a question. What is anyone with a high compression, super charged or turbo charged engine, using for fuel in the DR?

My engine simply doesn't like "la buena". No one seems to know the octane rating of "la buena".

Octane boosters are a joke. They claim to raise the octane rating 3 points. But that is actually 3 tenths of a point. So if you have 87 octane, you will have 87.3.

I'm in Santiago. Anyone have a suggest what I can put in my tank?

Well you can buy VP race fuel or nutec here in the country but its extremely expensive.

Most of my friends are just using a mix of pump gas with toluene on their turbo charged engines BUT toluene is still kinda of a black art since there isn?t a exact ratio of how much to mix per gallon.

High Compression or Supercharged/TurboCharged? There is a big difference as a Supercharged/Turbocharged engine will be running with a low compression or else the engine will Handgrenade.
If you are having problems with detonation on a Turbo engine you should look instead into either a intercooler or a water injection system as the probable culprit is high temps in the intake charge.

As for Higher Octane just run over to the airport and use AVgas. It comes in various octanes and because it is for aircraft is of much higher quality.
DO NOT USE JET FUEL!!!

My engine is a 4.6 liter 32 valve V8. I'm not running a super charger or turbo charger. The compression ratio is 9.85:1.

I don't get any knocking but I can feel the computer retarding the timing. The constant check engine codes are another indicator.

Considering that your Gas tank is probably between 15 and 20 Gallons in Capacity just add about 4-5 gals of Aviation Fuel(AVGAS) Get the 102 Octane. That should be enough to take care of your problem.
Also Check you O2 sensor of your exhaust. With the bad gas quality there this cheap part replacement might just be your problem.
A good performance type in-line fuel filter might be a good idea also.

As some of you know I am involved in racing but I have to admit Drag racing does nothing form me.
I did some as a kid and as recently as last year I got to make a few passes in a "top alcohol" dragster(8.1 E.T.) Still I was underwhelmed. You are more along for the ride.

Back in the 80's we use to organize "unofficial" races every so often late at night with timed runs around the road that lines the perimeter of the Jardin Botanico. Of course that was when there was no traffic and we were all real racers. Today between the Traffic and the Idiots in the Ricers, street racing is plain irresponsible.

As a ex-streetracer, the scene has changed alot. Most people now a days just prefere to much style over substance and many dont even car about learning how a simple modification works.

Its also more fun and exciting to race with a 20 car grid on a track then one some dark road.

Do they have any track races here? I've only heard about drag races.

There's the Autodromo las Americas which serves as a race track/drag strip. It also has a track for karting which was built last year.

The kart section of the track is really nice, 3 diffrent layouts and also nice fast curves. It was host to a international kart race 2 weeks ago.

Also for there's the kart track on the Malecon, which is currently being renovated.

I think tomorow Sunday 24 the autrodromo will be hosting the GT of las americas race. Need to check tho

Environment

I never did race. Only worked as a mechanic. I would agree that you are mostly in it for the ride. 4 - 5 seconds and that is it..
However, I had a blast working as part of a crew. In my case that was what was fun about it. The environment. You could have members from hells angels or diablos, walk up to you with the hands on the back, as if though small kids in a museum, asking you questions about the in and outs of the vehicle.
The early mornings preparing for the races as well as the late nights are part of the charm as well I suppose.

n2o or nos(nitrous oxide injection)

is there a call for affordable n2o kits
we retail in the uk kits for ?200
i will be able to source most components in the DR
the only import items being injectors/ pulsoids/ solinoids

the n2o should be available due to the medical use

we fit the system in the uk for ?150-?200

so total cost ?350-400approx

can be used on petrol or derv

u must have problems with temps so water injection could be great for performance engines, turbos etc
