entrance to the uk

hi all

I've checked through some of the archives (so appologies if this has been asked before but the archives are huge!) and have only seen this come up in the case of America.

Has anyone attempted to bring a spouse to the UK before (long term -say 5 years)- just how difficult is it ?? I'm emigrating to the DR in 6 weeks so it inst the hugest of deals but i am interested as to how difficult it is should i try in the future.
