I believe Tourist Cards are now only valid for 15 days. I am visiting for 21 days. What is the proper/legal way to stay for 21 days?

Thanks

Adrian.

You are legal. Just at departure, you will have to pay RD$150 (about US$5) additional at the airport. Just takes five more minutes at departure.

tourist card

I just left after overstaying a month and it cost me 132 pesos. The immigration guy had a dog eared sheet with the breakdown for staying over 14 days. The first listing was 15 up to 90 days=132 pesos.
This was at Puerto Plata.

I think the migration inspectors are allowed to be flexible. But by knowing the authorized rates, at least you are not overcharged.

I ALWAYS ALWAYS fight with them over the amount. For 15-30 days, the sign above that desk clearly show $62 pesos. Not $150. She tried to argue and explain something else. I didn't listen. Last time I showed up with "exactly" $62 RD. Not a damn peso more. Usually by time I am leaving I am fed up with Dominicans trying to over charge me. By the same token, I am not trying to cheat the system out of what is fair. But if anyone on here knows why I should pay the $150....please, please explain it to me.

$62 is all they will get from me for now (unless the sign has changed).

Actually, I am reading from a release sent out by the Ministry of Tourism to the tourist offices abroad. The document is on Department of Migration letterhead.

But I would do the same as you and argue that they can only charge me what the sign says.

The last time I left I had overstayed 16 months... they calculated 16 X 50 pesos equals 800 pesos... Plus 100 X 2 for Breakfast as they had no change for 1000.00........Ah such is life in Paradise........Havent left for 2 yrs now so maybe I wil have to spring for lunch the next time.... M.
