Not many here in the Dominican Republic, know about the great Spanish painter Jose Gausachs, born in 1889 in Spain and passed away in 1959 in Santo Domingo, he has great importance in art history. In Paris he cultivated friendship with other great Spanish artists of his time; such as, Modigliani, Braque, Picasso and Gargallo. After the Civil War he established him self in the Dominican Republic creating there such school, today Dominican art painting is divided in to time frames ?before? and ?after? Gausachs.
If any of you have heard of this master and genius and how his influence transformed art for future generations in the Dominican Republic, the way he captured its beautiful dark woman and the tropical light of the Caribbean on his canvas, please post it on this thread.
