I plan to climb Pico Duarte. Has anyone here ever made the climb?

How much would such a trip cost?(please give me the price in US dollars)

What gear/tents/etc would the guide company most likely supply?

Is it best to buy warm clothing, boots, etc in the United States and bring it with me or is the kit sold by the local stores priced fairly?

Please post any tips that you consider helpful for making my trip.

I plan to climb in January, is that too early?

Thank you for any information.

Please do us all a favor and

do a "search" on this board.

You will find all of your questions answered.

One guy did it on the cheap and had a blast.

Just put in "Pico Duarte" and click.

Pico Duarte -Tour

Hello Joel

The 'normal' trip to the Pico Duarte starting from Jarabacoa with everything included (dominican tourguide, tents, sleeping-bags, food, mules, permission etc.) can be arranged for 250.-US$/person.
The so-called "abventure-centres" sell the same package for nearly twice the price.
January is fine.
Weather-gear and apropiate shoes/boots are necessary. I would recommend
to bring it with you. It shouldn't weight too much.
