Hi my name is casi and i live in puerto plata teaching at a school. I was there for 4 months and then came home to Canada for christmas and was charged 150 pesos at the airport for being there for over 30 days. I am returning in january and staying till the end of june, where can i find out what are the legal taxes i have to pay for overstaying in the dominican and if i apply for residency will i still have to pay these fees everytime i leave the country?
Thanks for any information :glasses:

150 pesos in nothing, that is like $5 dollars. If you get a residency you will not have to pay anything. Were you using a tourist card by the way? If yes your tourist card would have been good for 90 days.

The 90 days has been changed down to 15 days.

It is limited to 15 days on a tourist card and has been for nearly a year now.

No, you don't have to pay if you have residency, but getting the residency will take you the six months or longer and cost you alot much, much more than the RD$250 fine they might impose, including in terms of time & aggravation

Thanks Gregg very usefull info here. Wow more than 7 years for RD$2,000 that is excellent. Some countries put you in prison for staying that long as tourists.
