I know that Dominicans love their merengue etc. and I do like merengue and the occassional bachata but maybe not at Christmas.
There is nothing that puts me into such a Christmassy spirit as enjoying Handel's "Messiah". I just love it. When I lived in Sweden, enjoying "Messiah" in one of the Cathedrals was the start of Christmas for me. Also Bach has written music that fits well into the Christmas season.
I had to leave Santo Domingo already on 23 December and spent evening of 24 December, walking down Champs Elysees, overwhelmed with all the decorations there. And I was thinking that, DR being catholic, albeit "Latin" catholic, I am a tad surprised not to find more Christmas concerts?
Or is it me again, not being able to find out where all these things take place? Or maybe there is no interest in that sort of music?
