So Many Unfinished Public Works Projects
I found the item on the 1,100 unfinished Public Works projects, some dating back as much as 20 years, in today's dr1 news summary very interesting. And I certainly agree that they represent a huge financial loss to the country. I believe that everyone who lives in the DR can name at least one project on which a great deal of money was spent but the project was never finished.
One that comes immediately to my mind is the big marina project in Samana harbor. The government spent large sums of money on dredging and starting to prepare the harbor for a marina, but then Leonel was replaced by Hippo and the project died. Since then, the harbor has been silting back in and the scars left from that project detract significantly from the beauty of the town of Samana.
It would be interesting to see how many projects expat posters can name that represent a great deal of money spent but wasted because the project was never finished.
