Wondering if anyone has information about Carnival in the DR, specifically Boca Chica and/or Santo Domingo. The travel guides say the official day is 27 February, but they often start two to three days before. If this is true when and where can we go (daughter-9, husband and myself) to see some of the celebration? Or is it better to avoid this completely (too congested to get around)? We are pretty easy going but a city at a stand still or in full party mode can push the limits of my sanity! We are staying in Boca Chica, so getting to Santo Domingo would an easy day trip.
P.S. I will bring masks to avoid getting hit all day! Carnival tradition where those with masks can bop anyone without a mask! Ouch!
