Look for a hotel in Santiago

I'm trying a different venue and I need some help. I am looking for a reasonably priced (under US$50) hotel in Santiago.

I would like a hotel with a swimming pool, safe or lockbox in the room, air conditioning (although this time of year it is probably not necessary), and nearby access to high speed internet. Since I don't want to rent a car, I would like a hotel close to some restaurants, bars, and/or discos. I will take cabs to whatever sightseeing there might be.

Any information including telephone numbers, address, or websites would be greatly appreciated. The "Hotels in Santiago" thread didn't provide much information.

Thanks for any information.

The only hotels with a pool are the Casino Hotel ($100 plus) and Matum (Rundown).

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to avoid a hotel with a casino but it looks like my choices in STI are limited.

Try the Matum. I paid $30 for 1 night.
I don't know when you stayed there. When I called to make a reservation they said it was $58 (including taxes).

Althoug it has no pool.. I can recommend the Aloha Sol.. will set you back around RD$ 1,600 a night.. it's on Calle Sol; central Santiago, near to bars, shpos, restaurants and the Monument.

Alternatives

Aloha Sol: Nice and central to everything
Colonial: Very inexpensive, close to everything, a/c, quiet
Platinio: Ave Estrella Sadhal?, near the PUCMM. A bit gaudy, but modern. Plenty of luxury for your buck.
Alberto's Suites: Inexpensive (RD$900 for an a/c room) on Calle Vicente Estrella, near Sabana Larga. Just two blocks off of Sol Street, and near the Monument.

Take your pick.

HB :D:D

P.S. Although I know the management, I would not recommend the Matum. I have heard of unpleasant experiences there.

i would not recommend MATUM either,,, i stayed there last year...
looks like a dead, beat-down castle abandoned hotel.

if you're in santiago and you just want a place to sleep i would recommend
Rotonda hotel, 27 febrero and Rotonda... very inexpensive hotel.
RD$350 with just fan,,,,, RD$650 with a/c

ALOHA SOL, and almirante casino hotel are just too overpriced,, just to
sleep.... if you want pool then go to puerto plata all inclusive resorts.
Santiago are stuff to do but just need place to sleep.

Does the Aloha sol have 2 beds in any of their rooms? Platino nice but not near anything but a 24hour restaraunt and a college.
