I think dominicans read rarely and write still less, and it shows in the signs here in POP.

Some typical misspellings are:
Hale instead Jale (jalar verb = to pull). I didn't see yet any door with the correct spelling.

Aparta hotel instead Apart hotel

At least they corrected the Teleferico signpost which not far ago read "telesferico"

I still remember

the sign by the pool at the Iberostar Costa Dorada in Puerto Plata.

In an attempt to keep the toplessness at the beach and away from the pool area they had placed a sign at the pool which read:

NO TOPPLES PLEASE!

Pets or meat?......perhaps both!

Aguayo,

You pointed out a common spelling mistake because for some reason it is incorrect on signs in other Latin American countries as well.

One that I will always remember that I saw once in the DR:

"mudansas" y "acareos". This was on one sign and both words were incorrect.

s/b "mudanzas y acarreos"

NO WOBBLES either, presumably.

The OP asked about spelling on DR1, but some respondents are taking it to mean the DR in general. There is a wealth of examples in this thread from a year or two back, a classic if I may say so myself.
