I'm new as a member to DR1 but have enjoyed the posts from time to time since my first travels to DR in 2002. I figure I needed a last minute break so I'm jumping on one of those reasonable (cheap) flights from NY to Santiago this Friday. I've never been to Santiago (I've been to SD, NC, Boca Chica and Punta Cana) but I was looking to spend a few days in town. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel (preferably with a nice nightclub, bar casino attached or close by) and some great nightlife. Would be great to get the lowdown on all aspects of Santiago nightlife (from the upper class to the raunchy) as one never knows what you are in the mood to experience on any given night.

Thanks.

P.S. Always in the mood for a pretty face and nice attitude.

Maybe you should post in General posts. I think you will get replies. Wish I could help but I'm just as lost as you.
Good Luck!...

Do you speak spanish? If not Santiago might not be for you. Santiago is not tourist orientated for the most part. If you speak spanish I could refer you to a few discos.

Thanks. I speak a bit of spanish. Enough to get around (buy stuff, simple taxi directions, food orders, etc.) but not enough to hold a conversation or pick up a chick (I'll have to rely on my good looks for that... ;) )
Since I will at least spend Firday night in Santiago would be greatly appreciated if you could shoot a few places that may be best for me (little spanish) and I'll see how it goes. I saw some issues about lists (or calling names) on the various posts if an issue pls. send a pm (I don't care either way...and it looks like rellosk wants to know too). If it goes well maybe I'll stay a few more days if not then maybe I'll head to NC.

I was also leaning towards the Hotel Aloha...any thoughts?
Also thanks for your note Shyla...I was trying to move it to that section when i realized but alas I couldn't figure it out (and I figured that more "living" folks would know Santiago as opposed to "travel" folks). However, I will start another thread in that section too as I may get some good responses (and it somes more appropriate there).

I would try:

Ahi bar by the "monumento". That place is quite busy on Fridays and then around 12:00 AM OR 1:00 AM try Francifol or Tribeca. Any Cab Driver should be able to take you there for no more than 100.00 pesos.

If you want a quiet night you might want to try:
"Te matare Batitsta" in Texas Ave.
"Cafeto" live Jazz band on the last friday on every month.

There is also Shakabana close to "te matare Batista" in Texas Ave.

Have fun,

Wag

Also add El Tablon by the monument for good dining. And La Parrillita by the Plaza Internacional.

There is a small disco in Hotel Centro plaza on Calle del sol. And This hotel, if i am not mistaken is closer to the momument than Aloha sol.
For casino you can go to Gran Almirante Casino or Hotel Matum.

For Nightlife, you can explore a bit by saying to a Taxi that you want to go to a place that you can dance, listen to music, watch a movie, meet some chicks, or whatever it is you want to do. Also say that you don't want to go very far, which somehow indicate subconsiously to the driver that you don't want to pay any absurb price for the taxi. But to avoid that just ask him how much before you leave.

A few of the girls at Centro Plaza speak english so you can also ask them a couple cool place to hang out based on what you are looking for or what you want to do

Early evening go up to monument and walk around and enjoy a few beers and see some women then walk down to one of the restaurants below the monument to eat( cucara macara or Montezumas) Then head down behind Cucara macara to the Ahi bar for some more drinks and to look at some really hot women. Once your good and liquored up there go right across the street there is a disco there but I never remember the name of it (its hit or miss there) A few blocks from Ahi bar there is a new club called "Despacio" I like that place alot From there you can go to Shakabana also new and very nice or Tribeca. If you are looking for female companionship at this point in the night and the rap and the good looks aren't working you can try Casa blanca night club or Pasion night club for some companionship.

santiago night life is dead.

Spelling correction for badpiece post and more detail offered.

The restaurant below Monumento is Kukara Makara (even I am not sure of exact spelling but its more closer to the real name). Then ask someone where ahibar is and they will show you how to walk down there. Ahi Bar is good from thrusday evenings till sunday. The bar across the street from Ahi-bar is called Qijote. Locals go there from barrios.
The disco called Espazio or (not despacio) and its located on Beller st. You can also walk down there. Thrusdays they have university night and some nice looking girls show up there. Shakabana is dead lately and only time will tell when it will shut down competely.
Tribecca & Francifol: They are the best places to see best looking santiago women but I doubt if you will score. This is the place were people go there to pose and then tell everyone that they are tribecca and francifol crowd.

About monumento:
All single women in monumento are either Hookers or hookers in training. You will find many girls who are looking to be picked up by guys. You may have luck there if you spend some time walking around after 6pm. Don't be proud to pick up a woman there, because they are almost all hookers if they are not accompanied by guys.

Have fun.

My preference for an early start

This was my routine on Friday or Saturday nights.

Start in Ahi bar around 8:00 pm. Have a few drinks and something to eat "Picadero Caliente for 2" is quite good.

Around 12:00 to 1:00am head to Francifol. It is not impossible to score there, I have had luck in that place. I wont say that I score everytime I go but I have a good run of around every other weekend or so.

I have even met my actual girlfriend there. I hope the picks I posted on the members mugshots show up soon.

Actually I am going to be there in Francifol on Saturday with my novia celebrating my bday weekend. whoa I am 39 now.....

Thanks a bunch

I have more than enough info... thanks for everything. I'm sure with all this I can't miss having some fun on a Friday night. If I like it I may just hang around a few more days.

More STI night life questions

I read this thread when it first appeared and made a mental note to reread it before I head to STI this week.

I am arriving thursday night at 12:30 on Jet Blue. . . I know Escott thinks that arrival time is inconvenient. . . .but I am staying in STI and not heading to north coast. . . .

First. . .assuming I drop my bags off at hotel by 1:30 or so. . . .is Ahi bar still a good choice? Thursday night is still university night at Espacio?

Also the live Jazz concert that is held the last friday of the month. The original post was a bit confusing. . . to this gringo any way. . .

"Te matare Batitsta" in Texas Ave.
"Cafeto" live Jazz band on the last friday on every month.

I assume the name of the club with live jazz is Cafeto? Where is it located. I am planning on spending thursday night, and friday night in STI and then head to SDQ for sat and sunday.

I really like live music so I am looking forward to checking out the live jazz etc.
