... country specific message boards on the Internet?

I have been doing a little research and I have still not found a message board that is country focused, that's as active or has as many posts as DR1.

Some big ones deal with specific communities, Korean or Indonesians for example, but I haven't found any large country specific boards.

I had a good look at http://www.big-boards.com/ and via Google and couldn't find anything.

I know there must be a ton of sites, does anyone know of any?

looks like it..

One of the largest methinks. I wanted to quickly check the Compuserve Forums http://www.compuserveforums.atoyholic.com/ as there are some big boards that have been running for a long time.. but I forget my screen name of - wow - it really is around 13 years ago. The internet as we know it today must be growing up.

I would bet a few pesos that for a country specific board the DR1 will be in the top 10 Robert. Just don't know how to research that. I also found the variety of topics over the past few days quite interesting.. seems like we've had sankies as common fare for months now. And currently, Chinese Vans, Should Dan write about what he is writing or not, A real life drama of police action being perpetrated on what we hope are innocent folks, Active Spanish lessons, generally just a host of new and fresh topics. For me, I'm glad to have been part of co-ordinating the weather stuff and still look forward to my early morning and late evening quick DR1 browse.

Boards

I have not been able to find any composite listings on sites, there are millions of boards. Site specific like DR1, I would think is #1 with Debbies Forums http://debsdrtravels.proboards47.com/index.cgi? running 2nd (nearing 1 million hits in a year). Of course each site has its own agenda, with Debbies ( http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com/ ) in 2 parts geared for the tourist questions and resort information. We continually refer many poster's other questions to DR1.
Many of the members belong to both boards which is a good sign as both are excellent resources for information on the DR.

Since finding this site, I have search for comparable boards on other countries that I visit and have yet to find one. They aren't nearly as useful or entertaining, not to mention addictive. I smell a franchise.

Unfortunatly you can't use HITS as a measurement of success.
I wish we could, DR1 averges around 650,000 per day.

Debbie has a great board and it's busy, but it's not close to DR1 in activity and tends to deal very much in travel/resort related questions.

I'm more interested in daily posts and activity, this is the true measure of a boards traffic.

My grandparents are from Cork, I've never been there but from what I understood was the place is very posh and beautiful, high class of sorts but this forum seems to be a bit rowdy with a lot of rubbish.

Robert, are you seeing what I'm seeing?

The opportunities are endless.
