Just started to think about this, I've been living here for couple of years now and never have noticed that there would be a travel agency looking for new employers. Is it that they are all family owned or is there just not market in DR?

I myself have a degree in travel and tourism and decided to extend it now with travel agent/ /specialist studies. But is there any change to get a job like that in here??! E.g. travel counselor, honeymoon specialist etc......??

From a Puerto Plata point of view...
I guess you are talking about outgoing travel, as there are plenty of incoming dealers around ( i.e hotel beds, coco tours etc ).
For outgoing travel, my guess would be the market is not big enough, and not the possible targetgroups either...
Hotels handles weddings, many gringos deal direct with the airlines or try to catch charterflights available when visiting their native countries..
And the Dominican market.. not very big..

Excellent opportunities.
You'd want a degree in "sankiism" though.

Who would be the target group in a business such as you propose?
Incoming or Outgoing tourism?

Outgoing mostly, but why not incoming as well. My dream is to work as a travel counselor or agent, planning different kinds of packages or combinations. For example to look for the right kind of cruise for a certain person etc.....For example the course I'll be taking is to specialize for Honeymoons and luxury tourism.

Too hard in my opinion, and no specific target group to gain from for outgoing tourism.

Of the two travel agencies I know of in Puerto Plata, neither looks to be very busy. The bulk of there business probably is airline tickets, not a money making part of the business.
