This might be frivilous to some...but we are a family considering moving from US to DR. One of our children, a 15 year old boy, is a world class tennis player. Highly ranked in the United States. While I understand baseball is a national obcession, need to know the state of ITF, Junior Tennis in the DR> Opportunities for competition, quality coaching, facilities etc.

In researching recent top rated DR players, some of whom are atending small colleges in the US where they are playing scholarship tennis, it would appear the level may not be as high as we might hope.

Do you have any tennis folks wemight contact

You can call Giacomo at 809-571-3340. He has been a tennis pro here for many years and could help you. He only speaks Italian and Spanish though. A little English, but not much.

Also Guillermo Villas teaches at Playa Dorada part time over here also.

Call Mary Jo Fernandez

Ask her where she trained here.

Most of the more promising young players come from Santo Domingo Country Club where they are ball boys.

If the kid is world class, he should probably stay in the states at one of those "Tennis Academies" in Florida or California. Nick Bounoconti??

Heck, he is only a year or two from turning pro ..

Here is why it is good to read the papers

Yesterday I saw this in the papers and thought of you guys

Francesca Segarelli wins National Under 18 title

Francesca Segarelli won the 18 year title beating Katherine Hoepleman is the tournament helt at the Parque del Este. Segarelli, the new local tennis sensation won 6-2, 6-1.
Segarelli said that she will participate in the Merengue Cup and the JITIC tournaments also to be held at the Parque del Este in Santo Domingo.

Here is what will interest you

She said we are going to compete in the professional tournaments inWurope in order to accumulate ITF points that are required to enter professional tournaments. Segarelli said that she was feeling fine and that she is training at the Occidental Hotel and resort Academy in Playa Dorada and has the support of Golf Citee and Parmalat Dominicana as well as the International School of Sos'ua.

So there you have it...
