Hey everyone,

For the first time EVER I saw a spanish keyboard at my friend place!!

Anyway I was wondering if anyone knew the universal codes for accents. I am talking about the ones where you have to press CTRL + (number, i.e. CTRL + 130) and you get accented letter.

Accents

here you go......

The Alt + NumPad input method
An alternative input method that works across all apps and flavors of Windows is to use the Alt key and a number in the numeric pad to the right of the standard keyboard. Don't forget to check that this pad is activated (use the NumLock key)! You simply press Alt, and without releasing it type the number corresponding to the character you want in the numeric pad. These are some of the character codes:

? - 160
? - 130
? - 161
? - 162
? - 163
? - 164
? - 168

INTERNATIONAL US KEYBOARD

' (apostrophe) + e/u/i/o/a → ?/?/?/?/?

" (quotation mark) + u → ?

~ (tilde) + n → ?

Right ALT key + / → ?

Right ALT key + 1 → ?

Right ALT key + 5 → ?

For capital letters press SHIFT while hitting the letter you want to put the accent on.

Obviously, I have a keyboard

that is geared to English and Spanish.

I use the International English version of my default language.

However, for me:

Right CTRL+ ALT+? = ?
and
RT CTRL+ ALT + ! = ?

And, this one I love: CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+ c = ?

The Character Map in Accessories tells you how to make most of the odds and ends.

free download

If you want those accents with no fuss and a lot of other goodies you can download a free program at :

http://allchars.zwolnet.com/

This works very well for me and only requires hitting the Control button, not holding it down and then two keys. Very easy and has other neat things i.e. ? , ? , ? and much more. ;) ;) ;)

I know its an old thread but...

If you are using MS Word, and you know how to make macros, and assign those macros to a button, you can create a new toolbar that has all of the accented letters, etc. It saves time versus hitting the multiple keys. of course this is only for MS Word (or other Word Processing programs) and not the internet.

If you are using MS Windows they have a virtual keyboard you can install that floats on the desktop and has the accented keys you just click with your mouse as required.

MS Word

If you have MS Word and want to type in Spanish just go to Tools>Set Language and choose the dialect you want - you can hardly mess up as it will auto correct a lot of words and recommend suggestions for those that are mispelled.
