I'm moving to San Juan de la Maguana this fall for a two month internship. The organization I'll be working for is helping me make housing arrangements, but I'd like some suggestions from anyone who knows the area. I've lived in Costa Rica, but never in the DR. Is living with a family an option? Are there hotels that would be comfortable and affordable? Should I worry about hurricanes??? All the information I find is on Santo Domingo, and I imagine San Juan will be quite different.... Advice???
