Just some basics on how to describe the weather:

1. Use the verb "hacer". It is.....

cold= Hace fr?o
hot= Hace calor
sunny= Hace sol
cool= Hace fresco
windy= Hace viento

It is very hot= Hace mucho calor
It is very cold= Hace mucho fr?o

2. "Estar" can be used as well to say: It is.....

cloudy..... est? nublado
sunny..... est? soleado
humid.... est? h?medo
raining.... est? lloviendo
clear.... est? despejado

These forms are incorrect:

"mucho caliente" (s/b muy caliente)
"es fr?o"

The correct way is:

[Hace] mucho calor y [Hace] fr?o

Weather related vocabulary

temperature = la temperatura
degrees= los grados
rain= la lluvia
sun= el sol
cloudy= nublado
clouds= las nubes
drought= la sequ?a
humidity= la humedad
shower= chubasco, aguacero
forecast= el pron?stico del tiempo
it rains= llueve (to rain "llover')
the weather is good/bad= hace buen/mal tiempo

Please feel free to add to the list

Muy bien Hugoke01

Corrections:

2. "Siempre" s/b placed at the beginning of the phrase or before the verb in this case. Don?t break up ?hace? and ?mucho?.

5. "Estamos a 27 grados Celsius". (This is the simplest way to express xxx degrees. On the news you will hear some variations but in my opinion ?estamos a? is the easiest way).

9. It s/b "No hace mucho calor".

Be careful with your spelling :classic:

Is "Diablo! esta muy caliente o frio afuera" incorrect? I have heard many people use this form. In fact, now that I think of it, I am guilty of doing the samething. I wonder if it will ever be accepted.

Thanks.

Lesley,

Is it also correct use calor in the feminine form? for example "Hace mucha calor". I use both form and I just wonder if the feminine form is incorrect.

In DR, if I am not mistaken,

aguaceros are better known as downpours.
llovisnas as showers
and jarinas (sp?) as drizzles

Stodgord-

Right from the dictionary here are the meanings:

aguacero -
m shower, downpour.

llovizna-
f drizzle.

The meanings are universal as far as I know.
_____________

La calor- as a feminine gender word it's considered archaic. I did a thread about genders in February please read my details there. The usage is rare. I have heard very few people use 'la calor'.
_____________

Regarding your question about 'est? muy caliente o fr?o afuera'. How about you doing some research and reporting back your findings. I think it will add more intrigue to the thread. JMHO.
