Apartments in POP area

I'm surethis has been discussed a few times.

But....things change with time. And some past links I have found and researched are no longer accessable. Plus I have different wants and requests then former posters I am sure.

I think my husband will probably get the best deals...being a Dominican. (we all know that Dominicanos will get better deals then a gringa, in general)

However, I was hoping for some info if anyone has heard of any good deals in the POP area...please let me know...by PM or on this thread...

What we are looking for (more or less):

A 1 bedroom apartment, with a kitchen.

Would prefer to have some furniture.

Would like to have a fan, And/or a generator/inverter. (If possible. If not, these can be brought over from our former place)

Not too picky. But would like something in a deceant area. We will probably be moving from Luperon to POP, for work purposes. I have lived for months at a time in the DR, so I know what Dominican prices are really like. And I will not accept any high prices because I am a "gringa".

So if anyone is aware of any avalible deceant apartas, or such, in POP or area, please let me know what you can.

Will be renting from anytime early July, untill anytime early 2006 - mid 2006.

Muchos gracis.

Go to Tony who runs the banca/exchange office at Heladeria Mariposa by Central Park.. he knows alots of people and can usually help.
If you are looking for something local residencial the rent is about 4000-6000 pesos depending on furniture etc. Furniture is always about 1000 extra, so better if you can fix that in any other way.

In Atlantico there are apartments 1 or 2 bedrooms just opposite Plaza Turisol that are furnished. They are about 7500 pesos per month. DOn?t know if any available now. SHould be, many tourreps lives in this building, and many have left and will come back only whent the season starts.

Electricity and Cable TV is never included, neither gas. Water yes.

Best is to handle this when you come here. I go with you to Tony.
You need to see the apts anyway!

RD$ 4000-7500?? 'bout USD150-280.oo a month !?
What quality of apartements is that?
How safe?
What kind of tenants?

Sounds like a fair deal oposed to the apartments down on the East Malecon next to the "Casino" which they offer at USD 1000.oo a month.

You must be not be a Dominicano???

Unless you are getting a BIG fancy apartment I don't see why you would have to pay anywhere near $1000US a month!!!!!

Our room in Luperon (granted this is Luperon not POP) Is very small, but has a washroom, closet, comes with a bed, night table..and a few other little extras. We have a fan, and there is a convertor, which works sometimes. It is basically all we need, and it is only $2,000 pesos a month.

But I do know prices will be higher in POP, plus we want a kitchen, and furnature would be nice...

I am having my husband do some investigating on his own, and I do have some friends who live in POP who I am going to call soon about this...

But I wanted to get all the options avaliable, which is why I turned to my trusty DR1ers...weath of infomation! :)

4000 - 7500 is avarage residencial rent in Puerto Plata for any are.
Down town, Torre Alta, Ballardo, city etc.
Malecon as well, but that area is not very wanted by either Dominicans or immigrants expats.

There are a few fancy apartments in POP, across Jose Luis and towards the city from the Malecon seen in new apartment buildings. They are from 8000 up to 13000 pesos a month.

1000 Us a month is a rip off... heck you can rent a casa in Torre Alta for
anything from 300 up to 750 Us a month, depending on size of the house.
And these are great casas with everything.

That?s about 14000 pesos, it is completely OK as it is for shorter term and not residencial.
Residencial apartments are cheaper.

I stayed at Puerto Plata apartments (Torre Alta area) in April, studio, furnished, with 24 hour power, small kitchen, living room, cell phone, pool, only paid extra for drinking water. I found the area to be safe and secure. It was $200 US/week, but I would bet a long-term monthly rate would be less. Jeffrey has an ad through the POP report, and also found by searching Puerto Plata apartment rentals on the intranet.

I know Jeffrey well, but his apartments are for short term visitors.
For visitors, short or a month or so, Jeffreys apts are great.
They are not for longterm living of a year or more.
What Peachez needs is a residencial apartment.

Carina... :), no I am not a Dominicano.
Nevertheless, I would not pay USD1000.oo for these apartements or most any apartment, not even short terme. Still, and not only opposed to that, RD$4000 is an affordable and more realistic rent IF it is well located (POP), safe and clean, so that's where my question came from. Still, it is a lot of money for Dominicans too when you compare it to most salaries.
Also, I would assume that most that will inquire here (on this Forum) about a place to stay are would not be locals either and may not all be looking for long term arrangements.

BTW: The infamouse example mentioned: I looked at Puerto Plata Beach Resort Apartements just walking by, intrigued by the lack of development (IMO) on the malecon. I decided to drop in and ask stupid questions... this is the anwer I was given... together with an offer to buy at USD40K. So? Hmm... that would be an about 25% gross from rent on the "investment" IF one would only get that grand a month... every month. :nervous:
Well maybe for some tourist familly it may be an option but certainly not for living... Dominicano o no.

Anyway Carina and others who shared information, if you will allow, I might mail you towards the end of the year for some suggestions, OK?

Thanks! ... J-D.

6000 for that is a good rent if furniture, inversor and pool is included, but Sabana Grande is hell when it is raining..
It?s about the same as the apartments in Marapica goes for, but without the pool.

I can help a little, Larry's apartments are now fully booked out with deposits paid until next year.
Thanks for your interest.
