News release we have just received:

Providence ?Mayor David N. Cicilline and community leaders will formally unveil the new street sign in South Providence naming a section of Broad Street Juan Pablo Duarte Boulevard, an honorary designation. The news conference is scheduled for Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. on Broad Street at the intersection of Miller Street near the entrance to Roger Williams Park.

The honorary designation pays tribute to Juan Pablo Duarte who fought to liberate the Dominican Republic in 1844. Duarte visited Providence in 1828 and is credited with helping to spread democratic ideals throughout Latin America.

Roberto Salcedo, the mayor of Dominican Republic?s capital city, Santo Domingo will attend Saturday?s unveiling at the invitation of Mayor Cicilline. Providence is home to nearly 30,000 Dominicans and the city has a sister-city relationship with Santo Domingo.

Those are good news. My uncle will probably be there. Providence has a very important Dominican colony.
