Hello Dominicans,
My name is Allan Boynton and I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Recently I was in the Dominicana Republic and went to V Centeraio Park where there is horse racing. I was wondering if anyone knows any info about who owns the track, how often it operates and such info. I find the tourist stuff on the net but I want to know where to contact the people that run the track. If you can help me in any way possible I would truly be grateful,. I currently write columns, handicapp races and have a love for teh DR and horse racing.

You happen to be in luck as I am a new track expert down here. The track was leased by the same company that runs the track in puerto rico, however in the past six weeks it was taken over by the governement.

Races are run right now only three days a week, tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays, post time is at three p.m. We usually have about five races on a given day and about 5 to 8 horses in a race.

There is a big push to increase the number of horses running, and over 100 horses were just imported from Ocala and Miami, for resale to local owners.

To own a racehorse in the Dominican Republic you are looking at about a day rate with is 1/4 of what it is in tracks like calder.

We also run a dominican triple crown, the first leg was just run last saturday, and the horses also compete in the Carribean Classic against other horses from PR, Venesuela and other countries.

I have been told that over 1000 machiens for wagering the horse races have or will be installed all over the country bringing the game to new players. Also, the horse racing comission is running the races on live tv, and has a radio show that calls the races, all country wide.

I have even heard that they are going to do something with a casino wagering.

I have a lot of faith in the future of Dominican Horse Racing, I hope you become a fan.

If you have any more questions I am happy to talk about the races.

I just saw your post, which is now about 2 years old, and was wondering whether you could give us an update. I am a trainer/owner based in Florida, and I am planning on making my first visit to the DR in October. In the interim I would like to learn whatever there is to know about the racing biz there.

My parents are coming to visit in November 2007. I would love to take them to one of the horse races that I have seen on television (Aster). Any information would be great!!!

In addition, I have ridden in Jarabacoa and Sosua/Cabarete. What NICE stables are there in the south/SD??????

Thank you!!!

What is new in the DR for horse racing. Have things got any better?

I am still very much intrigued by the sport there and how it is so famous and the sport of KINGS in North America and there it seemed like there was limited race dates and less money. I would like you to continually update this page to keep us all informed and grow the sport there.
