Does anyone know if a transit visa is required for a Dominican to travel to the UK via Holland or Spain? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Spain yes, Holland no, IIRC. Look up recent posts by Dominican Babe who was exploring these options for her husband's flight to the UK.

I wonder how they're doing - we haven't had an update from her for a while!

Never heard of a transit visa. I believe you need a Schengen visa to go to Holland or Spain. I don't think that could be regarded as a transit visa.

You do not need a Visa to transfer from Spain or any European Union Country.
Also you can transfer in the U.K. without one also. This is for Domincan Nationals. However you do need a Visa to enter the Netherlands. (Holland)

Just to add to this, you can fly to the U.K. direct from Puerta Plata. I am not sure which charter company flies there, but there are quite a few direct flights to the U.K. from POP airport.

A Dominican will need a Visa to enter the U.K. I am sure you already know this. To change planes through the U.K. a Dominican does not need one.

Thank you

Hi Sky

Thanks for that info. Where did you find it? The traveller is Dominican and already has a UK visa but told that to travel via Madrid would need a transit visa. This was not the case via Amsterdam. Any further info on Germany?

Hi Dolores

A transit visa is sometimes required if you are changing planes in a country. It does not usually allow you to leave the airport. Thank you for taking the time to reply it is appreciated

I wish this was true, it is near on impossible for a Dominican to fly direct to the UK for the first time. Hence the requests regarding transit visas. Thanks once again.

So, has anyone heard from DB?

I sent her a PM but no reply but I'm sure she's ok as far as what's happening in London because I see the pm has been read.

Maybe she's just too busy right now for an update.

Hi Guys, sorry, I haven't been logging on much lately - lots on my mind. Things aren't going too well, but at the moment I don't want to post the details on an open forum.

Sorry Em, don't want to hijack your thread, so back to the original question. The only way I could find was via Amsterdam - every other European country required a transit visa, which had to be applied for at the relevant embassy with the relevant fee.
