I am going to be in Juan Dolio from the 15th to the 19th of August. I am a huge poker fan, and cant think of anything better to do while I am on vacation than to get a poker game going with others who may be in the area. If I can get enough people interested we can set up a time and a place. Hold em is my game of choice but I will play draw stud and Omaha as well. Let me know if youre interested

Poker Game
It's not a tournament. It's a regular game that they have every night. They only have one table. You buy in for a minimum of RD5000 (about US175). During any hand, you can bet as much as you have on the table. If you lose that, you can buy in for more; but not during a hand. There are no blinds, only a RD100 (about US3.50) ante.
I haven't been there for a while, so you may want to call (809.523.6183) to see if they still run the game.
BTW, if you've never been in a casino in the DR, avoid playing Keno. Many casinos are running a scam where people have reported losing thousands of dollars, which the casinos will gladly put on your credit cards.

Also, be careful sitting between two locals. Many times they work in tandem. Everytime you make a modest raise over one, the other will come in over the top of you to force you out. You can only stay in if you have the nut hand, since they are playing you two on one. They don't care which one of them wins since they are partners.

The game at the Hamaca seems to be legit, I've won three out of the four times I've played and I am not a good player.

That seems to be the Norm in DR casinos and that is an OUTRAGOIEUS rake. In Atlantic city for example, the rake is 5% up to a maximum of 4 dollars. So, for all of you who are mathematically challenged, if you have a 20 dollar pot, the rake is 1 dollar. If you have an 80 dollar pot, the rake is 4 dollars. If you have a 500 dollar pot, the rake is still 4 dollars. In a DR casino, on the other hand, the rake on the same 500 pot would be 25 dollars. Soooooo, in a game where the same 7 or 8 people are playing for hours and the is no fresh money coming into the game, you just keep transferring money back and forth between each other and your chip stacks slowly shrink as the house rakes each pot. It makes it much more difficult to make money.
On a side note, I am moving to SD this month and after I get settled, would like to get a regular poker game going. No rake, but we would all chip in to pay someone to deal all night. Please PM me if you are in the SD area and would be interested.

I'm amazed that AC only gets a maximum of $4 a hand. Most of their other games they have about a 5% edge. I'm surprised they give up the floor space for such a small percentage.
