just wondering if the crackdown is still on over on duarte street.

Summer is winding down here and i am thinking of doing a 5 day weekend later in the year. I am just wondering if calle duarte is still all closed down at night. I am not looking for working girls....but earlier this year it was rather depressing as there was virtualy nothing to do at night.

I dont gamble...so the casino at the hamaca holds no interest to me..neither does their lame disco. I pretty much just like hanging out on the beach...hopping on a guagua and checking out the other beaches in the area and spending perhaps one night in santo domingo....and hanging out with some of my friends in the area. I just used to like hanging on duarte and watching the street circus at night.

SO my question is...is BC still on lockdown...or is there any hope that some of the fun might return?

well that is sad to hear :-( i have been wanting to check out the north...but i LIKE the south...as i have made quite a few friends there over the years...and i like visiting them.

like i said in my Original post...i am dont go there for the working girls...i just cant believe the entire calle is closed at night.

I understand that the govt wants to "clean things up".....but what are folks to do at night if they arent staying at an AI?

as seedy as boca chica is (i've always called it the coney island of the carib)...i enjoy the beach and the proximity to the capital.

Sure..clear out the hookers if they want (but they arent really gone are they..i doubt it)....but provide some alternative entertainment at night for adults who dont want to go to a casino or a hooker disco!

Back in february Boca was dead. I stayed at El Caucho and rarely left the hotel. I am like you, the Duarte stroll was fun for people watching but I don't miss the working girls. The only bar that was open back in feb was Isla Bonita and it was ok for a beer or two right on the beach. It was also funny watching drunk tourists fall in love with the waitresses there. . . . . .

b.c. these days

get over it! The damn place is shut down. At night only italy ,italy, the little swiss bar, and a fast food chinese rest. are open. day time there is action, of a sort, on the beaches/streets. The gov't has moved all working girls into controlled environments. there are at least 5 whore houses where the girls are permitted to work. Since you don't go for the girls or things of that sort then what's the trauma? go to the north coast i.e. sosua; check in to the europa, garden kettie, or rocky,s and make thousands of new friends. On the beaches; on the streets; in restaurants; sitting, standing, walking, etc.Oh yeah, you will have a good time, too.
luck, john

It's kinda hard getting over a place you've visted for years, have become really comfortable at, and where you've made good friends. But I'll say again JJ, you'll love the north. Spend a few days hanging out in BC, hook up with your favorite person and head out on the Caribe Tours Bus from SD to any of the great places in the north. From PP to Las Galeras, its fabulous. I wouldn't suggest going alone though. For a gay traveler up there it could be problematic finding a companion.

Name the 5, not including La Sala, White House, Pink House all of which were closed in the raids.

Gee, I could have been wrong, rick. It wasn't a girl from the pink house that spent the night with me at the costalunga. And la sala WAS very entertaining the early evening that I spent their. And I may be wrong about the number of casas also. By 1 one way or the other. However ever I think the op was asking about the potential to enjoy and monger, in his own way, in Boca Chica. And if it was indeed different then when he was last there. There is nothing to defend here. It is changed.

I am not implying that you are or were wrong, actually.

So you are saying as of now the closed MP's are all repoened and there are about 5 of them (which is more than before the raids)? Not that they are anything more than tourist clip joints for the most part but it does speak to a lessening of the anti-prostitution attitude if they have all been allowed to reopen or the owners are paying off the PN to a better degree than the PN wants to abide by the fiscalia's rules.

You will recall the town - the bars and the MP's were shut tight in the original raids so this is a change if it is up to date. When were you there?

I received mail from a friend just down there and he says there are more strumpets and such about than in the early part of the crackdown, though it still sounds like Duarte even to eat or drink is really nothing still at this point. He did not say any of the MP's were open however, not that he was a patron but some like the Pink House are hard to miss.

jerryme still does not understand how blocking works on this site I presume as well.

well..i am sad to here that there is nothing left of duarte at night.

As much as i want to and DO plan on visiting the north soon...another poster got it right. I enjoy going back again and again..cuz i am comfortable there and have met many friends (not sankies...tho i DO know a few of them as well :)

Unfortunately...most of my friends there have jobs and cant really hang out too late at night.,...so i think it is a shame that they havent tried to do something different with duarte at night! I personaly miss ruta 66. There was always a good mix of toursists and locals...without too many working girls or sankies....and i always enjoyed shooting some billiards there.

well..it sounds like the chica chasers are still having their way down there with the MP's still open. So hopefully hotel business is still doing ok (i was worried for candil and other places).

Personaly...i will probably go back one more time, cuz i want to see winter league beisbol with a friend of mine there....but i will probably make it a shorter trip and think of somewhere new to go. Perhaps the north? perhaps spain....i really should check out where my family is from.

I was in BC in March and June and noticed there seemed to be a bit more action on the June trip. They had re-opened a couple of bars that had previously been closed and there were a few more people hanging out on Duarte street.

I've another trip planned for November and also intend to see a beisbol game or 2 in Santo Domingo and San Francisco de Macor?s. What a blast! ;)

I find that hard to believe. Are you saying that El Pelicano, Boca Marina, Da' Nancy and the others have all closed since June? Say it ain't so.

Boca Cica

I was there in july. La Criolla is open again, but there are no people hanging out there. Since Zanzbar and Cosmo's has closed Duarte is dead. All the resturants including D'nancy are open. At night there is the bar Isla Bonita and The Boathouse- both on the beach. Boathouse plays american music and is probably the cheapest bar in B.C. The more tourists there are, the more the locals show up i.e. july 15-sept1, dec.22-march 30. If your looking for company, its best to hook up on the beach during the day- usually better people than roam in the night. Stayed at Candil. Pink House is being renovated--? Maybe as a normal house or who knows. There are some fugly chicas that hang there during the day and try to hook.

In a continuing effort to make Boca Chica a more family oriented beach destination, I am told "Jamba Juice" took over The Pink House.

I was there from the 9th thru the 12th.
Yes their are restaurants open. D'nancy, etc. Yes there are tourists there. Staying at cl, candl. etc. But wven the motoconcho crew that used the corner by the car wash as their staging ground is deserted at night. On duarte only 2-4 manning the station.
El pelicana, boca marina and such aren't very revelent to making my visits more successful.

As stated previously, the daytime beach action is gentle but there. The Italians still inhabit the first four beach spots. At least one, if not two of these spots have changed hands within the last year. For the better, to me. The fresh fruit guy is still there. And yes, the boat house is open. It's still one hell of a romantic spot at night. Speaking of night. The rrestaurants are now allowed to stay open at night and offer specials after 8 pm til closing.
Spoke with Nico, from route 66, while I was in Sosua. He is in B.C., as we speak, getting ready to or trying to open within the next week or so.
All my observations are only meant to explain the current status for mongering, whether straight or gay. And, I am sympathic with jrzyguys plight. Change is always a little scary. But there was a time when it was his "first time" in the DR. and in BC. And from what i've read of his posts he sounds like he would have a good, comfortable, enjoyable vacation were he to go to the north coast.
Hope this helps, guys. John

Sorry. I was basing it on secondhand information. A while back, Didi told me Nico (sp?) was in jail in The Netherlands. I will ask him when I see him next week.

I have heard three different versions of The "Nico - Route 66" story!
So, I am sure you can add a few more chapters after your visit.

PS: Enjoy your trip!
