If you like the Jaragua, the new Hilton should be the same, if not better quality.

In the colonial zone there is a Sofitel (spelling?) luxury hotel that has old world charm and new world facilities. I have not stayed here myself but it looks great from the outside and people I know have given it good reviews. Not sure about prices, probably a bit more than Jaragua.

I assume you have stayed @ The new SDQ Hilton since you are recommending it?
Is it 100% completed?
Last time I swung by there it was not completely functional.

One should never assume:). If you read my post I say, "the new Hilton should be the same, if not better quality". If I had stayed there, I would have said is (or is not) the same quality.

Per DR1 Travel News, the hotel is now fully operational:

President Fernandez at the Hilton

President Leonel Fernandez and First Lady Margarita Cedeno attended the inaugural of the new installations of the Hotel Hilton Santo Domingo at the Malecon Center on the sea-bordering avenue. President Fernandez also attended the opening of the Majestic Casino adjacent to the Hilton. Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez accompanied the guests of honor. The 21-floor Hilton Santo Domingo had a soft opening, receiving its first guests since 12 July, but is now fully operational.
