one of those plastic "for rent" signs like are common in the U.S. but oh-so-hard-to-find here? I have a condo for rent, and I wanted to put a sign on the balcony.

You will find them in Ferreterias (Cuesta, Americana, Hache..etc..)

in the Deposito Ferreterra in Puerto Plata, but they didn't have any. Where is Cuesta or Americana? Hache is in Santiago, right? I don't want to have to drive all the way down there.

All these are in Santo Domingo but I'm sure you have some big Ferreterias in Puerto Plata, if not, than I would make a trip to Santiago or paint one myself! Good luck

I'm sure you have found one by now, but if not, go to any papelaria.

There are tons of them in Puerto Plata, Libreria Cafemba has most I think.
Located on Calle Separacion, across the street from the old house of justice.

NAUGHTY HB, .... naughty!!

Life gets difficult having to be inventive in this country - don't it??

Try HB's suggestion but
1) wrap the cardboard or hardboard in clingfilm (when the paint is dry)
2) have the sign plasticised (heat wrapped)
3) use plastic whiteboard instead of cardboard.

Failing that, go to the libreria (stationers/bookstore/cardshop) Carina mentioned in Duarte OR go to Ripol's store on Doce de Julio. Ripol's son works there & speaks quite reasonable English (found THAT out after chatting in Spanish for 18 months!!). ~ Grahame.
