The Best Restaurant I have been to in Puerto Plata is Cariatides; the atmosphere, food, presentation, and servcie were all excellent. A little pricey, but not too bad for a special evening out.

The food has always been good there, but gawd, 1:30 hrs is way too long to get an entre. I have not eaten there because of the long wait, but some people say this has gotten better recently.

My office is right about Cariatides. I've never had a problem with a long wait here... how long has it been since you were in Conchman? Give them another try! They have changed the menu, the food is really very good.

Hey, I love the food there. I have never waited for too long..
Last time, the only thing I was not happy with, was that the chicken ceasar salad I ordered was a mini portion.. I mean MINI...
Other times, most satisfied.

1500 CAN be concidered pricey..FOR THE DR.... I have eaten for 700-800 pesos and that was 6 people at places you stop along the side of the road, and pick out the food buffet style.......still less than the 4,000 peso i spent at the casino hotel resturant in Santiago.. is this place a nice sit down place, ac'd?, music at all?, crowded?....what is there specialty?...thanks...bob

Cariatides

I don't know what the specialty is; they have a very varied menu. Seafood, pasta, beef medallions, ribs, chicken, pizza, salads, hor dourves, soups, etc. It is a very extensive menu. We were there fairly early in the evening and there was no wait at all. Food was delicious, delivered promptly, and no complaints whatsoever. Oh, and they offered us two choices of seating, one is open air and the other appeared to be air conditioned. It is a very very nice sit-down restaurant with great ambiance.

While they are not really a specialty restaurant they are more Italian then other if you needed to categorize them....

It is all good! I have had the steak, the pasta, pizza, salads, pork and I've tasted the lamb. It was all good. They do a great Caprese salad!

There will be a Canadian BBQ restaurant opening up in Cofresi in November.

Its in the same building as the former (not current) Tony Cook's, same building as also the former EMI Sun Village Mexican restaurant.

I think all realized that. And still 1500 pesos can be pricey. Depending on what was eaten and drank. But the fact is the majority of your menu is casual dining and US$55 is above what you would spend in the US for the equivalent. I say "you" based on your screenname.
