My wife and I are starting to plan our vaction next year, basicly a month in Las Terrenas. It has occurred to me that rather than rent a quad or car it might make more sense to buy a couple of bicyles for getting around town, then just give them away when we leave. Any thoughts on this? I know I can rent some, but at like $12 per day I think it might be cheaper to buy. About what would I expect to pay for a couple of bikes in LT? Nothing real fancy, just something to get around on, maybe with a basket for hauling a few items.

Bicycles are great in Las Terrenas... You can rent them at Lionel's, in Playa Las Ballenas, in front of Las Cayenas...
Of course, it's sport... But overall, Las Terrenas (around the village and main beaches) is quite flat... Don't go to the lomas (hills) with bikes !
I don't know the prices, but it can't be too expensive...
