A note to Texas Holdum Poker fans. The American Casino at Jack Tar in Playa Dorada has begun a weekly Texas Holdum, no limit, tournament. It is on Friday nights at 9:30, Dominican time. It has a RD$ 5,000 entry fee. Prizes are 75% to winner, 25% to second place. Last week there were 9 players. If more attend it will be extended to two tables, merging into one.
The house is taking NO commission from the prize pool, nor a rake during the game.
I asked Raphael, the table organizer, why the house is having a game with no commission. He responded that this was a promotion to create more interest in Texas Holdum and develop interest in the regular nightly game. The regular game follows the tournament on Fridays.
Notes for the interested and cynics:

Notes for the interested and cynics:
- The game is played in pesos. If you bring dollars they will exchange at the Casino rate. Currently 30:1, compared to 32.5:1 at the cambios. Therefore change your dollars before you come.
- Usually someone is available to change pesos back to dollars for a "few" points commission.
- The regular game has been played for about 9 months now and usually attracts about 70% tourists and 30% locals.
- I have no financial interest in the game, nor receive any commission from the game. This post is for information, not an advertisement.
