I wish I would've seen the Spirit post sooner! I just booked a flight for my wife from Orlando to Santo Domingo - $147.60 round trip including taxes! The dates were very limited; in fact I think these were the only dates left at the $9 one way price.
Still, the $79 one way flights are scattered throughout November and December and will still be much cheaper than an AA flight.
