in a word "yes" I can only tell you of the gambling in the Playa Dorada complex. There are 3 or 4 hotels that have casino's, I know that Jack Tar's was under renovations for some time, and the size of the casino at Paradise is also decreased, but I believe there are two other hotels within the Playa Dorada complex that have full casinos. I am not much of a gambler, but from what I have seen they have your pick of slot machines, different limit tables for black jack, roulet, and the other Craps game that I can never get the hang of. I hope that this is helpful to you.

Gambling they do have. I am not a gambler either but that is correct 4resorts do have the gambling. THE BEST TIP I can tell you is dont gamble in PESOS. The reason being your pay out will be in PESOS and the machine tend to pay out very little if gambling with PESOS. I am told that the AMERICAN DOLLAR is your best bet for gambling.

Hi Jack: Currently the hotels that have gambling in Puerto Plata are the Paradise Hotel and Jack Tar Village in the Playa Dorado Complex. Playa Dorado Hotel has a casino but the last I know it is under renovation and not reopened yet. There is the Puerto Plata Beach Resort in Puerto Plata proper and one in Playa Chiquita, Sosua. Also one or two in Santiago and more than in POP in Santo Domingo although I don't know those locations. Gambling is legal and there are several "sports banks" in the region. In addition to the local"banks" there are a few that do offshore betting. Hope this helps.

All of the Casinos in the DR are small (by US standards). There are Casinos in Santo Domingo and most of the resort areas. The games they offer are:

Slots Blackjack (rules vary from Casino to Casino, some hit on soft 17, some allow surrender, some don't allow you to double down after you split, most are six or eight decks) Craps (single odds only) Baccarat Roulette Big-6 Wheel Carribean Poker Sports Book

Be aware, if you gamble in Pesos and win, you will not be able to convert back to dollars unless you pre-arrange with the Casino. So you probaly want to gamble in dollars.

I've frequented the casino at Playa Chiquita, in Sosua. They usually have at least two Blackjack tables going. Six decks, early surrender, endless splits. There's also "Caribbean" Poker, Roulette, slots, and bingo. Gamble in pesos or US. What's the difference? You either win it or lose it. Let's not forget cockfighting on Tues and Sat.

All the others have given you plenty of info. I don't gamble, but in my opinion the best casinos are in SD, both at the Rennaissance Jaragua and Hispaniola Hotels. Jaragua's casino is the biggest in the DR, I believe.

Natasha

Re: Gambling/Sports Book?

The Casino in the Hotel Jaragua takes bets on sports. They probably are not the only one.

I was told the 30% rule applied if you want to convert from Pesos to Dollars unless you go to the steet vendors. Am I wrong?
