ever since the introduction of Brahma the beer companies have gone to war with each to hold to as many customers as they can grab.
Lately in ahibar, when you order brahma, the waiter offers you a free president-light big bottle. there are always presidente guys around who are watching tables and sending free bottle. Then brahma is offering 3X2 special. You buy 2 beers and 3rd one is free. Now it seems corona has jumped the band wagon. In supermarket central, its 3X2 special. You buy 2 beers and 3rd one is free.
Long live competition.

Yep. Definately good for the consumer :classic:

The Brahma marketing blitzkrieg seems to have paid off. However, I tried my first one last week and was not impressed.

Long live competition....and ice cold presedente :)

I'm waiting for them to do it in Sosua

The customer service from Presidente "sucks". I had to call the Rep. 3 times last week to get my order. This week I called and told him I needed 20 caisses for today and they can't deliver untill Saturday. I have to buy it from a supplier at a greater price. I hope Brahma kicks the sh*t out of them. As for it's taste, true your first one may not go down as well but once accustomed, you won't want anything else. If a place has no Brhma, I will drink Bohemia but no more Presidente for me. BTW Brahma has reached the over the 30% point in my sales.

Eddy, who is buying most of the Brahma from you? Is it tourists who are seeing it for the first time and want to try it or have regular customers switched? I am curious.

I really liked the Brahma on my visit last month. I read all the negatives on this board, but it is an excellent beer and so is Presidente and Bohemia. All 3 are way better with no preservatives than our canadian beer, where you get a headache after 3 or 4 small ones.

Long live Brahma and Presidente!

Several of my regulars "Expats" have switched. To my surprise, the are also quite a few of my Dominican customers that prefer Brahma. As for Tourists, they will order Presidente because they don't know any better. The ones who I have suggested Brahma to, tried it and liked it. I'm all for competition but unless Presidente step up their "Service" on the North Coast they will just keep loosing ground. Anyway, I'll take a free beer from whoever will give it to me. LOL

I was in The DR a few weeks ago and tried Brahma for the first time and liked it somewhat. It seems to taste a lot like Bohemia. Presidente is still No. 1 in my book as I like pilstners, but Brahma is not a bad introduction into the market.

Their marketing machine seems to be everywhere. There was a fair in Cotui that week and it was sponsrored by Brahma, the basketball tournament was also sponsored by them, and so on.

I also noticed what seemed to be an increase on people drinking Corona, which in the past seemed to be rare.

Either way you measure it the consumer will benefit from this. If nothing else from having more choices.

The last day I was in The DR I woke up terribly thirsty. My flight was leaving around 11:00 AM out of Santiago and I thought "Hmmm...good time for a beer". So I stopped by the side of the road and asked to give me the coldest one they had which happened to be a Brahma. THAT one went down really good and I thanked god that I come from a country where if you want to enjoy a cold beer at 8:30 AM you can without people looking at you like you're an alcoholic.

Gotta start preparing for my next trip..More Presidentes, Bohemias and Brahmas will definitely be in my future.

Little off subject.

Does anyone know how to buy Presidente in keg form? 1/4 or 1/2. or Brahma for that matter.

I am in the Sosua area.

not impressed by brahma either.

presidente tastes better.

and i have been told by brahma distributors that they are no longer doing the 3x2 anymore.... maybe there are exceptions or it depends on the establishment.

brahma might take some % of the beer industry but presidente will always be the leader in dr.

Well presidente does not sell Kegs to private parties. But call the sales office and get all info from them.

Presidente on tap sucks @ss. Go to the casino at Gran Almirante and ask for a beer if you don't believe me. Presidente has a higher alcohol % than other beer, that is the "flavor" everyone is talking about. I don't care what the label says. If you did a blindfold taste test at room temperature you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Presidente and (insert digusting liquid here).

The only reason people drink Pesidente is it freezes their taste buds on contact. Viva la Brama.

My two bits ( on subject as well )

Two and a half weeks ago when I arrived again in Sosua I was keen to try a Brahma to see what I thought of it.

No it's not to my taste was my reaction, stay with Presidente.

I do change beer brands back home here every year or so as one can get sick of the same taste after a while.

I was quite surprised when I got back home and had a Corona from my fridge. It's very similar to the taste of Presidente I realised.

I prefer Presidente before Brahma. Had hoped the competition would get the price down. 30 pesos in the shops for a localy produced beer in a 3'rd world country is totally ridiculous. In Germany and swome other European countries, you can get a sixpack for about the same price.
