I am a single male in my late 30's going to the Dominican Republic in late December. I am probably going to Puerto Plata. I would like to hang out with alot of other single tourists and go to some good discos and bars at night. I can Salsa and do Merengue too. Please tell me where to go out at night. I might stay in or near Playa dorado.

As replied in your other post, Sosua & Cabarete would be better options for you.
Playa Dorada is for newly-weds & nearly -deads.

Oh Rocky when was the last time you partied in Playa Dorada??????

PLaya Dorada has 4 options for going out dancing at night. I will tell you that they fundamentally do not play a lot of Latin music, you will get a bit in most bars and a little more in Hemingways on the weekends. Tourists seem to love this reggaeton, hip hop and techno so the bars cater to that more.

Here is a breakdown of Playa Dorada:

Okay Playa Dorada - 3 minutes from Puerto Plata, these are all targeted to tourists but on weekends will target Dominicans as well. So you will get a mix of thump thump thump , reggaeton, and latin music....

You have the current favourite Mangu, at Jack Tar Village Hotel, beside casino, large and busy most nights. Nice dance floor, entry 150 pesos includes a drink.

Roadway, behind playa dorada plaza - smaller, I"m told good food, a little pricey by local standards. Sometimes local bands play. Very small dance floor.

Hemingways, in playa dorada plaza - decent food, a little expensive, music is a mix, live band on Friday and Saturday nights.

Crazy moon, in Paradise Hotel - large open floor plan, nice dance floor, but not too popular since Mangu opened. Re opened under new management, no real changes. Not overly popular but this can change at any moment.

If you want latin music you will have to get out of Playa Dorada to a local place. Send me a PM if you want more info and I will forward it to you. Better yet, we'll take you with us, I go dancing several times a week.

Let me see now...
10 years ago, maybe.
But the real point her is that the OP wants to dance Merengue, not reggaeton, and Playa Dorada is like living in a cocoon.
I do understand that you are stuck living in POP and it would be far for you to get home from Cabarete at night, after partying and drinking, but there is no comparison between the 2, when it comes to satisfying the OP's needs.

I think the OP is also looking for some easy action.
So TCBM, consider Sosua just in case you have to come out of your pocket for some company;)

Hey Rocky, some things have changed a bit honey...LOL I was going on the assumption that he actually meant coming to Puerto Plata.

On the cabarete subject - where do tourists go to dance merengue in cabarete????

I was in the mangu bar after we left the casino the night of the thnaksgiving party. It wasnt too packed but was getting full. It was after 1am I think. we danced mostly to raggeatone, they played some salsa before that. I dont remember one bachatta song.......maybe one merenge..........had to deal with ANOTHER SUPER MACHO dominican again!!!!!!!!!!.......it happens every time there.....there were a few drunk parties there, seemed harmless though they loved it when my girlfirend walked by and let us know....but i got a chuckle out of it.........the best part was when one of the patrons decided to join the guy playing the drum and standing on the speakers.. he didnt last too long on the speakers!......ha ha ha ha.......hope his dental insurance was up to date !!!!!!!!bob

Having the golf course, casinos, and clubs right there is great.
Plus it is simple enough to go to Puerto Plata and Sosua.
No need to choose one or the other.
Are you a newly-wed or nearly-dead?
Just kidding.
There is nothing wrong with Playa Dorada, it's just so confining to be in an all inclusive resort, and everything is overpriced.
The tourists are like cattle, shipped around on organized tours and events.
It sure beats freezing one's butt off in the middle of winter in the Great White North, but, heck, if you're coming down here anyhow, you might as well really have fun and get out and see the world.
You could transplant Playa Dorada into another country, and not even notice the difference.

I like Playa Dorada but I need to get out and about a lot.
Playa Dorada is my sanctuary.
Staying on the resort and in the complex and being herded around is not for me.
If this was all there is to do, I would not even go.

I do need to get out and about even more than I already do.
I have not even been to Rocky's to try the famous ribs, but this will change very soon.
