We are used to the fact that Pick-Ups with mounted speakers are cruising at daytime in Charamicos.
We did not care, since it is very quiet in the night around the Hotel Villa Almonte, enjoying our stay.
Today however, one of theses guys started at 5 am cruising back and forth, no end of the awful loud "serenade" in sight.Just plain music without any message :tired:
Never have experienced such a thing since we have beeing here for 6 weeks.
Do this guys start their activities whenever they want ?
Is it just a normal thing for Dominicans/Charamicenos ?

Yup, whenever they want, and December is partytime, so don't expect it to go away for awhile.

I'm not sure what "chara" means, but I do understand, "mi cenos".

If it was soft music, or type of classic, it is most probably part of some procedure a church is having. It is common here in Puerto Plata as well.
Not often, but it happens.

Soft music out of a speaker-car? Its usually something really loud and annoying.

hehe... I agree it usually is.
Christmas time changes this sometimes though.
Last Sunday, a car from a church was driving around at appr. 5 am.
He was playing a kind of "Oxygen-version" of Silent Nigth.
Not loud or bad quality at all!

Yes, some sort of soft music, pretty unusual for a speaker-car, but loud as it should be :rambo:

It's just starting. For the past few years as we get close to Xmas, some idiots go as far as using a big truck with humongus speakers and waking everyone up at 4 AM. I recommend a pellet gun for the speakers in back of the trucks. I would prefer an uzi but we do have to be discreet.

Listening today at 5 am, the songs have a lot to do with "felicidad".
Some of the local guys told me that it is not uncommon to take advantage of the wake-up call to have a early morning session of happiness with wife or novia.
Seen from this point of view not such a bad thing at all :classic:

Isn't early morning as well as mid afternoon the best time of day for these activities anyway :)

Viagra aside that is :)

Guys, you are being subjected to an Aguinaldo on wheels. It is part of the Christmas festivities. The Aguinaldo starts late at night and conclude at dawn. This is part of the Dominican culture at Christmas time. You are suppose to get up of your bed and join in with the party, if you wish. I remember when I was a kid an Aguinaldo was a festivity put in place by the entire community. Most poeple with vehicles participated in the parade of Aguinaldo on wheels. The vehicle were decorated, additional speakers were installed. Flat be trucks became stages for dancing and singing. The main squares and street were decorated beyond belief.

...Traigo una truya para que te levantes, traigo una truya para que le levantes.................Vamos a formar un vacilon, ustedes ponen el Ron y nosotros el sabor. (by el conjuto Quisqueya).

I recall our first christmas here on the island 6 years ago, we had just been here for 4-5 months. This all was something I didn?t know of.
I asked my son the evening before, at that time 8-9 years old, NOT to wake me up in the morning, unpatiently waiting for his christmas gifts.
I explained to him we will have a long day ahead, with guests and it?s better that we all are fresh and don?t go up too early in the morning...
Hehe.. first wakeup call was around 4 a.m. and around 6 a.m. hundreds of people walking and singing to a car in the front!

Now I know.:classic:

It`s getting better from day to day :classic:

Instead of starting with the music right away, today there was a half our drum session, followed by 2 alternating speaker-cars until 7 am.
Have to confess I am wondering what`s up next..
Seeing it as part of tradition, a unique experience...
