Does anybody know the story of an Anthropologist who had been in the DR for many years that was thrown in jail in Luperon because his boat was used as a yola and the police was trying to pin it on him?

Apparently he is writing a book about his jail experience and an editor wants to know if the story is true.

Has anybody heard about this story? I have his name but its probably not prudent to write it out here.

Not only the police tried to "pin it on him". Read the following blog excerpt:

"...Last Mon approx. 27 people set off from here in a small, about 26 ft sailboat, in very bad sea and weather conditions, headed for that dream. They never even made it outside the reef (few hundred yards) before they broke up on the reef. So far 5 have been rescued and only about 10 retreived (dead) the others are still either hung up in the reef or lost to the sea. It is a very sad. One American has been arrested, it was his boat, and a local man also. The stories are thick & varied but it does look like this Gringo was involved, not good for local-gringo relations. Our hearts are very sore and we offer prayers and love to the familes that lost a loved one. Sometimes we forget how good we have it, then we see how desperate some are to just get a chance at our way of life."
