Does anyone know the length of time a Dominican must have their drivers liscence prior to moving to Canada, to avoid taking the practical exam here? I heard if they get their liscence in the DR 1 year prior to going to Canada, they are exampt from the practical exam and only need to write the written one. Is this true?

Have you thought of asking the MTO in Ontario or the equivalent in your province or....their web site which strangely enough has all this info:

Drivers from any other country (other than: other Canadian provinces, Canadian Forces-Europe, U.S.A., Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, France, Great Britain and Austria)

2 or More Years of Driving Experience Within the Last Three Years

You must pass vision and knowledge tests to be issued a Class G1 licence. If you have acceptable proof of two or more years of driving experience, you have two options.

1. You may book a G2 road test. If you pass, you will earn full driving privileges. If you do not pass this test, you keep your Class G1 licence and may then immediately book a G1 road test. Once you have passed the G1 road test you must reattempt the G2 road test to earn full driving privileges.

2. If you decide you need more practice, you may book a G1 road test to earn G2 driving privileges. If you pass this test, you will get a Class G2 licence and may book a G2 road test (when you feel you are ready and before your licence expires). If you do not pass, you will keep the Class G1 licence, and may re-book another G1 road test.

Less than 2 Years of Driving Experience Within the Last Three Years

You may get credit for your experience for graduated licensing. You must pass vision and knowledge tests to be issued a Class G1 licence. Once you have the required driving experience, you may book the G1 and G2 road tests.

You must stay as a G1 driver until you have at least 12 months driving experience before you will be eligible to take the G1 road test to graduate to a G2 licence. You must stay as a G2 driver until you have at least 12 months driving experience before you will be eligible to take the G2 road test to graduate to a full class G licence.

Nobody even tries to find out any more. :(
