Early stages of planning a trip to DR. My interests are bachata (live and DJ)
Ideally, I'd prefer to relax during the day and party all night long.
I'd like to stay someplace upscale but party with the locals.
I'm female 36yrs old and traveling alone from NYC.
Thanks for your expert opinions/suggestions.

what do you consider as relaxing during the day, i.e. laying on the beach, etc.

do you need a beach nearby????? I have been to many clubs and Bachatta is played very little, and i think only salsa is played less. Most play lots of merenge and reagatone, at least the ones I have visited. hey include santo domingo, samana , juan dolio , santiago, puerto platta, and La Vega.

Id like to hear more Bachatta also. I can dance merenge and bachatta now....anyone can dance reagatone.....I cant salsa yet, at least to my gf tastes. I like bachatta the best........bob

I don't want to exert too much energy during the day. For me, strolling about, going to restaurants etc would be daytime activities. I have no interest in the beach.

I'd be very, very disappointed if i hear "very little bachata" Bachata is the number 1 reason for my visit. I like merenge but I love Bachata. Reggeaeton is ok to dance to.

Someone suggested I stay at the V Centenario. Does anyone know if this hotel is near places that play alot of Bachata?

Thanks for all the replies so far. Very helpful.

Bachata in the barrio.......

Have a great trip!

Definitely read up on the sankie forum before you go. please.

Now, my personal experience is that bachata like I like it is generally found out in the barrios. The "nicer" clubs tended to play mostly salsa.

I usually visit lots of local carwashes, where we have a bottle of rum with a bottle of coke, and bachata until we drip pools of sweat. This is no problem for me as I am fluent in Spanish and usually have local friends (male and female) around me. I

would not recommend these places to you as a solo foreigner.

Can you recruit a friend to go on vacation with you? That would help a lot. Latina women never go out alone, unless they want to make a quick buck. You should plan to have someone accompany you. Maybe get an escort from dr1. There is a nice guy called AZB who may help. (BAd joke!).

OK You're scaring me!

I live in Brooklyn and work in the Bronx, so I figured that I wouldn't have any problem traveling to DR by myself.

I'm not trying to "meet" men. I'm just a girl from Brooklyn who looooves Bachata and wants to dance and have a good time.

Hey bachataluv, based on what you're looking for, I think that you are better off staying in Santiago, as there are more places that play bachata there, since bachata is more popular in the northern part of the country. In Santiago there are places that play mostly bachata and tipico, but I must warn you that most people on here will tell you that those places are mostly a chopo (low class) crowd, although I think that for a woman from Brooklyn it would be ok. I'm from NJ, and I would compare the crowds to any of the clubs in NYC, except the Copa. Have fun and enjoy DR!

By "low class" I'll assume that you mean poor. If that's the case I'm not bothered by that. It would only bother me a bit if I didn't fit in when attempting to dance/social etc.
So perhaps I will consider Santiago. I've been to the Copa and they play very little Bachata. I've been to clubs in the Bronx where alot more Bachata was played.

The people on here might call the usual crowds, chopos (low class). I see it more as working class, everyday people. I would compare the crowds to any that you would find in clubs in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Washington Heights. When I mentioned the Copa, I meant that the usual crowd at the Copa is perhaps a little more upscale and better dressed than most other places in NYC that play Spanish music.

Do a search on the site for Tipico clubs in Santiago, also the Copa is Puerto Rican based salsa-club, although all nationalities party there. They will only play a small amount of bachata. If you want to hear more bachata music you have to go to Dominican clubs in your area or believe it or not Honduran clubs.
pm me if you want a list.

Here are some places in Santiago that play a lof of bachata, tipico and merengue.

www.tipicomontebar.com
www.ambisdiscotec.com

Other places are Champions Palace, Rancho Tipico La Tinaja, Andy Ranch, Las Vegas, Rancho Merengue and there are others that I can't think of right now. Just going around Santiago, you can't miss the signs advertising where all these groups will be performing.

In NY and since you're in Brooklyn, Borinquen is right in your boro and they play a lot of bachata and have all the most popular and better known bachata groups (Frank Reyes, Yoscar Sarante, Raulin Rodriguez, etc.) perform live.

well I know this isnt the type of place you would think to go...and you may still not want to go there....especially alone....but tons of groups of women go there to dance as well as couples......ready....ok AZB is gonna jump down my throat....PASSION.... me my girlfriend and her MOTHER went there after we left the casino monday night. Up until KRISSPY played live the DJ place a ton of bachatta along with merenge and salsa...no reagatone!!!!!!!!! I think he pl;ayed at least 6 bachatta songs in a row!.....I know because at first i danced with my gf then her mother... and me and her mother just dont have a rythym together...I always feel awkward when i dance bacahtta with her. When i dance it with my gf , we flow really nice and move around well as long as the floor isnt too crowded......aslo of note was some really important Pitcher for a local baseball team was there. My GF who watches the game at home with her family alot recognized the guy right away...so i paid a guy walking around hounding photos of couple to take their picture together...did it right out on the dance floor!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha.....he also got up and sang with Krisspy for 2 songs!.... he was a really nice guy...... shook my hand like three times.....my gf was real happy.....what a good guy i am thats the second time I consented to her having her picture taken with another MAN!!!!!!!!!!! he first was with Tono Rosario ha ha ha...bob
