Hello! Thank you for reading my post. I am wondering where in the RD a Foodie would be happiest, outside of the capital.

By Foodie, I mean someone who lives on what other people would call gourmet food. Say, Zabars in NYC or Whole Foods/Trader Joe's in the states.

Are there any Foodies on Dr1? Where do you live and why?

Note: I am not slamming local cusine or anything Dominican. I am simply asking where someone with definite tastes in gourmet food would be most comfortable in the DR.

Out with the rhutabaga and leek platano pesto lovers! I want to hear from YOU. hmn,, now I have never tried that combo - off to the cocina.

Thank you Robert. That is what I had feared. Though I am hoping to hear that there is a Foodie in the hills somewhere with secrets to share....

That said, then, in SD - how would you rate the gourmet pickins, compared to any large US city? Gourmet restaurants, delis, grocers, etc... I am guessing that plenty of yummy European items are available in SD due to the large number of Euro expats as well as Doms who have lived in Europe, would that be off?

Appreciate your time....

SD has a great deal of all that you mention - a large selection of restaurants, good supermarkets and some specialist food stores selling international ingredients.

Restaurants: Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Basque, French, Belgian, Middle Eastern, Venezuelan, Argentinian, British, gourmet Dominican, fusion, vegetarian... have I left anything out?

For some of us the main gap in the market is (East) Indian food, but on the whole the ingredients are available. It requires some legwork, but between the large supermarkets and the specialist stores around town most ground is covered.

The second best place would have to be one of the tourist areas, where there are foreign-owned restaurants and food stores catering to international tastes. Cabarete, Sosua, Juan Dolio, Samana?

I'm a Foodie,
Dean & Deluca, NYC, only for meats, poultry and coffee
Would you consider D'Agostinos or Gristede's a Foodie Mart?

Oops!

Disculpa, I meant to ask ...
" Are there any Foodies living in the DR who want to tell me where they live, in the DR, and how they manage their Foodie ways and tastes without a Zabars and so on....

I am not talking about folks who love to try ethnic foods and folks who just plain love to eat, but a real Foodie. You know who you are.............:)

samanasuenos, thanks for adding some much needed spice to the boards over the last few days!

'Gourmet' is covered in my reply. You can get most of these things in the better supermarkets and specialist stores (for a price).

You might also enjoy some of this.
