Is there a working website for Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo? (www.uasd.edu.do doesn't seem to work)

Does anyone know exactly where the university located?

The UASD is on Avenida Alma Mater in the western section of Gazcue. Once you see a white structure with a large mosaic, you know you are on university grounds. That structure is the new library recently inagurated.

As for their online connection, it has been down for a few months now.

If you are in the North of the City just go into Av. 27 de Febrero and turn to the south at Avenida Tirandentes and the avenue ends at the UASD.

Thanks. Any recommendations for moderately priced hotels in the area?

Will you be guest lecturing, Rellosk?
Okay, I have a confession to make.

On my last trip, I met a beautiful young woman. We spent three wonderful days together. (No, we didn't have sex). We speak every day on the phone. She told me I was the love of her life. Even though she only has a third grade education, she is very smart. I want to enroll her in the University so she can get her GED. She said she can't live without me. I am planning to move to the DR to be closer to her.

Am I making the right decision?:)

Absolutely! How could you even ask such a question. This sounds like destiny. Start sending her money immediately.

You are joking right?
Only about the no sex part, I didn't want to embarrass her on a public board.

Of course I was joking. It was my lame attempt at a clever retort to Scandall's question.

Why didn't you tell him to butt out? I, too, wonder why a man of stature, such as yourself would be slumming around near the UASD.
Personally, I feel that it belongs up there with the Army, Navy and Airforce as one of the biggest and most worthless drains on the economy. 25% of the student body are uselessly enrolled, failing and never going to graduate, But the UASD keeps them there so it get a bigger subsidy from the government.

It could be so much better ar 1/ 12 the current size...

I didn't mind Scandalls post. I understand his humor (or is it his lack of humor:)).

Although I have no qualms about slumming it, I posted the question for someone that is reluctant to post on DR1.

Now getting back to the question at hand, does anyone know of any reasonable priced hotels in the area?

here's a great hotel-

Hotel Villa Italia, Av. Independencia No. 1107, between Alma Mater and Maximo Gomez. Tele: 809-682-3933 ? 809-682-3233, ?
e-mail: hotel.villai@verizon.net.do. The hotel is set well back from Ave. Independencia so it is quiet.

Large room with A/C , cable TV, or suites if you want them. Room for 2 is RD$1300. Several friends always stay here when they visit the DR multiple times per year. Decent restaurant in the front, Vesuvio is a few blocks away, there is a casino a couple of blocks down , and the UASD is about 3 blocks to the south entrance.

And Rellosk, there are several colegios nearby that offer 4th grade classes for your new chica. :)

I know a place on the west side of Maximo Gomez (Zona Universitaria) on Calle Santiago. For the life of me I cannot remember the name but I will drive by it this afternoon and post it.

I stayed there a few years ago. It was reasonable and clean. It is also not too far from UASD. I don't really know of anything decent in the immediate UASD area, or if you would really want to be that close. Like Hillbilly said, many of the people who go there are useless. You might want to keep a little distance between you and the campus.

As for me "butting out"...I'm not positive if he was referring to me. But for the record my comment about guest lecturing was only a half joke. And knowing the reason for wanting to be in a certain area only adds to the advice that you can get from people on the board.
