According to DR'S secretary of tourism, 3,500,000 people visited DR in 2005. It is estimated that around 2,000,000 dominicans live outside of DR. I have known dominicans who haven't been to DR in the past 20 to 25 years. uuuf! that's a long time! considering that most dominicans travel at least once or twice a year. For those who haven't been to DR in a long time, here are 19 reasons why you should visit DR.

1) Christopher Columbus defined DR as the most beautiful land that human eyes have ever seen and he is still right.

2) Dominican beaches are among the most beautiful in the world plus they have great accomodations and special attractions due to new resorts and hotels which have been built.

3) Dominicans are among the most hospitable people in the world. They are friendly and helpful with natives as well as foreigners.

4) In DR you find delicious sweets and fruits that you cannot find in first world nations. Namely giant guayabas and granadillo, the king of fruits to make natural juices.

5) Dominican women have nothing to envy women from other nations. They are beautiful, smart, like to prosper, are hard working, happy, have a sense of humor, like to study and know how to dance merengue bachata, salsa and other musical rythms.

6) Those who love history and culture can find dozens of museums and cultural centers.Namely Faro a colon, La zona colonial, museo del hombre etc.

7) The mountains, rivers, countryside turn DR into an authentic earthly paradise.

8) The Dominican republic is the only country in the world were dominicans are not foreigners.

9) Once you set foot in dominican territory, you feel as if you came home and you are where you are supposed to be.

10) The love, the attentions, the warmth of family members and friends is an excellent therapy to fill the emptyness that comes as a result of living and working in foreign land.

11) There are so many festivals that are celebrated in DR. It's party after party.

12) DR is in tune with modern technology and globalization, which allows access to the same things that are available in first world nations. Soon the first electronic train will be ready to operate in Santo Domingo.

13) Frequently, airlines offer economic airfares to DR.

14) There are several international airports in different parts of DR that allow you to get to where you want to go faster.

15) For those who love sports there are facilities to play golf, baseball, basketball, do swimming, diving, fishings and more.

16) If you love the night life, there is a lot of varieties. Namely, bachata, merengue musical groups that play live in different clubs.

17) If you love photography, you can take wonderful pictures from a small plane or helicopter as well as in your vehicle.

18) It's not expensive to purchase all-inclusive vacation packages to Punta Cana, Casa de Campo or other resorts and be treated like a king.

19) Every dominican including foreigners, after spending several days or weeks in DR claim that they feel rejuvenated, renewed ,as if their batteries where recharched. This good feeling is due to the fact that while they where in DR, they left behind an invisible but very heavy burden called stress.
