Default Banana Republic?? The DR? In 2006?

    * Is the Dominican Repubic in 2006 a ‘banana republic’? Why so? If not so, why not?
    * Food for thought: if the Spaniards had exclusively conqured & settled North America; instead of the interfering French, Dutch, & [especially] the British, then Canada & the USA would have exclusively Hispanic heritage! Logical!
    * The USA & Canada would be a lot like the DR, perhaps identical? A blessing? Better than Haiti!!
    * We could all enjoy unlimited Dominican culture, etc. in Mass., Minnesota, Vancouver, Novia Scotia, etc.!
    * Are we Americans & Canadians all victims of [inferior?] British culture & the English Common Law? British cuisine Or, . . blessed?
    * It just wouldn’t be the same up north. Food for thought? Comments?

up here in the banana rep of canada, the similarities is see is the gov't stealing our taxes to give to friends and supporters. we have blackouts frequently here in nova scotia(not like dr though). our roads are crap. the driving habits are becoming very simalar. the only thing that would be an upside is that we would all speak spanish. we could do away with this bilingual money pit. this way the gov't could make their cronies even richer by still keeping our taxes high.

Being British i say you are blessed. And how dare you say that my culture is inferior your just ****ed because your speaking MY language. And actually your culture is nothing like ours you dont have a sense of humour - we do. Your cuisine is nothing like ours either - you lot are all fat from eating far to many burgers and chips - we on the other hand are not !
    Food for thought ?

If anything, the DR is a "platano republic".

Novia Scotia (Scottish girlfriend) certainly has a ring to it.

The all-Spanish Americas would surely be termed The Western Union, but then who would send us money?

    That is so funny!!LOL

As for Haiti, I wouldn't say it was the French culture that has them in the pits. We could go on about that.
As for British culture being a blessing, I think the world owes them alot for Monty Python, the Beatles and single malt whiskey.

McLean's magazine: "The tragedy of modern Canada is that, instead of French cuisine, British culture and American technology, we've adopted British cuisine, American culture and French technology."
Imagine unlimited Dominican culture in Minnesota; great sitcom possibilities!

Food for thought: if the british had never settled the U.S. and if the subsequent u.s. government had respected any single one of the treaties that were ever made between the various native american tribes--perhaps the united states would have an exclusive blend of ameri-indian culture.

but at any rate, they don't matter--damn the french and dutch for not subjugating and conquering more peoples than they had to.
