Haven't checked the price lately but 4 years ago I paid 22k cash for my 100cc Suzuki.

Rick

PS Heard but don't know that the price has almost doubled

Yes it's pesos as I would never pay $22,000 for a 100cc rice burner. Sorry about not making that clear.

Rick

PS Which equated out to about $580.00 US

That's true but that was my third bike since I've been here and I still have it and it only has 12,800 Km on it.

I know what you meant but as I've been here 9 years I've learned how not to pay the 'dumb gringo price' and as I said earlier I wouldn't pay 22k US for a rice burner, neither then nor now.

Bike Prices

I just bought a Honda 125 (4 stroke) for 80K pesos. The Regent (cheap chinese knock-off) was 50K. A Nipponia 110 (Yamaha knock-off) which you see everywhere now, was going for around 35K.

The Honda gets great mileage as compared to the two-stroke DT... I got over 300km on my last tank (3 gal), and the four-stroke is much smoother lower maintenance. I need to get it in for it's 1000km tune-up (oil change, chain adjust, tighten spokes, etc.) which will cost around 500RD, and then I'm good to 5000km. (I worked through a Honda dealer in Sosua)

Paid 500RD for my plate, and 1100RD for 12 months of insurance.
