Do I need a Dominican Driver's License?

If I have an American driver's license, am an American Citizen, have a valid passport that won't expire in a year, do I have to also have a Dominican driver's license?

If so, how complicated is it. I read some threads with conflicting info and warnings about fast track.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks.

After a certain time you need to have the Dominican license (3 months?)
It's not complicated.
A foreign license can be certified at the embassy and then turned into a Dominican one with only the written test.
Anyway, this is how I did it with my US license some years ago. Things might have changed since then.

Yes, it's changed a lot.

Your overseas license is valid for the duration of your tourist visa (14 days).
After that you need a Dominican license to drive.

American license holders need to take a computer test and driving test.
Plus will be classed as leaners until they take the driving test.
You will need a full license holder with you in order to drive legally within this period.

Most European license holders can have their licenses endorsed by their embassies and do not need to take any tests. Bsically exchange their license for a Dominican one.

I suggest you use the search function to find the 100's of posts on this subject, just type in "license".

Thanks to all for this information. Seems easier for Europeans than Americans. Oh well.
