Just wondering if the penalty for staying more than 14 days is still the same amount.

15 Days - 3 Months: $300 Pesos
3 Months - 9 Months: $500 Pesos
9 Months - 1 Year: $2000 Pesos
1 Year - 1.5 Years: $3500 Pesos
1.5 Years - 2 Years: $4500 Pesos
2 Years - 2.5 Years: $6000 Pesos
2.5 Years - 3 Years: $8000 Pesos
3-5 Years: $12000 Pesos
5 Years+: $15000 Pesos

Also, can someone tell me what a taxi would cost from Puerto Plata to the Santiago airport?

Thank you

17 days

My last stay, 2 weeks ago, was for 17 days. I was not charged any extra at SDQ.

There is a discrepancy. The website http://www.migracion.gov.do/tarifas.htm shows the same schedule you posted.

However, on the posted signs at exit migration (at SDQ at least) the first line reads "30 days to 3 mos. ..................RD 300.00" The signs are in Spanish and English.

I assume they would go by those signs, since you could stand there and point to them. Then again, you know what they say about assuming.

That might explain why people aren't being charges for short overstays.

Is there anyone that has recently (since they've switched to the new tourist card system) been charged for any overstay?

As I stated in my previous post regarding Tourist Cards I returned from a 21 day visit 15th June via Puerto Plata. I tried to pay the 300peso overstay charge and was told there was nothing to pay and there was no need for the exit part of the tourist card. Could be the guy was in a good mood and let me off paying or they could have increased the validity time of the tourist card.
Not much help but I thought I would mention it anyway.
Regards
Keith

I was charged 300 pesos in Puerto Plata on June 14. I had been in the DR a little under three months.

How about if you stay for a year or two, has anyone left recently that had been living in the DR for more than a year?

On the way in you pay for a tourist card good for 14 days. Everyone needs that unless you have a DR residency.
Charters from Canada include that in the ticket but you pay $20 departure tax.

Some flights include the 20 departure tax but you have to get your tourist card at the DR airport. So check with the airline

Tourist cards

AnnaC hve a look at this
http://debsdrtravels.proboards47.co...dsuggestions&action=display&thread=1136033836

The Entrada portion and Salida portion are collected right after you clear immigration, before you get to your luggage. You keep nothing which is strange. Then you will be given a new blue form shown below in the thread shown and you fill out the data and duration of stay.
Then I suppose if you are honest and put down 40 days they will charge you.

?5.00 is about right. Your Dominican wife and step sons (assuming they are Dominican), don't have to pay the tourist overstay fees, since they are not tourists.

When I left after 6 weeks I knew that the charge should be 300, but, when I had a 500 peso bill for them, no one could find any change. I then stated that I had 250, so they took that instead. So typical. Guys were checking their own pockets for change. Where does this money really go?

Do they look at your passport?

So last week as usual he says "How long have you been in the DR" I answer one week. He doesn't look--very easy to look at date stamp and see for yourself dim wit. But he doesnt.
I wonder is this so hard -or do they ever look? Maybe this is the answer.
