Calling US 1-800 numbers from the DR...

Can anyone tell me whether or not it can be done, and how?

Most (not all) 1-800 numbers are not free from the DR. As strange as it sounds, it may cost more for a 1-800 number than a regular toll call to the US.

Just call and follow the announcement.
It's expensive though.
If possible use VoIP, there are free calls with some of them.

You need to dial 880 instead of 800 and it will work. You pay the regular cost of a call to the States this way. I am not sure all numbers will work, but the ones I called did.

I never knew that. That should come in handy.

Whenever I called 1-800 #'s to Cda on an Orange cell phone, it never ever went thru.

I had to call work, so I called the 1-800# but couldn't get through. But when I called the office directly it was fine....
